HISTORY:
"New Jack Hustler (Nino's Theme)" is a 1991 single by Ice-T, from the New Jack City soundtrack album. The song later appeared on the O.G. Original Gangster album.
THE SOUNDTRACK:
New Jack City is the original soundtrack to the 1991 film New Jack City. The soundtrack consists of eleven original singles performed by chart-topping R&B and hip-hop artist of the time. The music is heavily influenced by the New jack swing genre of R&B. Prominent artists and producers of the New jack swing era contributed to the soundtrack, including Guy with Teddy Riley, Keith Sweat, Color Me Badd, and Johnny Gill; Al B. Sure! produced the track "Get it Together", performed by F.S. Effect.
The soundtrack reached #1 on Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" charts, and #2 on "The Billboard 200". The single "I'm Dreaming" performed by Christopher Williams and "For the Love of Money" performed by Troop, Levert, and Queen Latifah, reached #1 and #12 on Bilboards "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles" respectively.
The Troop/Levert/Queen Latifah song was a medley featuring cover versions of Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City", and The O'Jays' "For the Love of Money" (The O'Jays lead singer is Eddie Levert, the father of two members of the group Levert).
THE MOVIE:
New Jack City is a 1991 crime-thriller/Neo-noir film starring Wesley Snipes, Ice T, Mario Van Peebles, Judd Nelson and Chris Rock. New Jack City was the first theatrically released feature film for the film's director and co-star Mario Van Peebles. It was filmed from April 16 to June 6, 1990. New Jack City was based on the exploits of the notorious drug lord Kenneth Supreme Mcgriff, Nicky Barnes, Felix Mitchell and the Chambers Brothers.
